Serui, December 11, 2024 – In commemoration of International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9, the Papua Civil Society Organization (CSO) KAMPAK visited the Yapen Islands District Prosecutor's Office to reaffirm their demand for legal action regarding several corruption cases in Waropen Regency. During the visit, KAMPAK Papua, led by General Coordinator Dorus Wakum, accompanied by Advisory Council member Oskar Wenggi and community leader Dominggus Buinei, urged the Prosecutor's Office to take firm action in accordance with legal procedures.

Petra Wonda, SH., MH., Head of the Special Crimes Section of the Yapen Islands District Prosecutor's Office, stated that the execution process against corruption suspects delayed due to the Regional Head Election (Pilkada) would proceed after the Constitutional Court's (MK) decision. He emphasized, “After the regional elections, the reported parties and suspects who have been investigated and delayed will be executed in accordance with the regulations.”

KAMPAK Papua highlighted several major unresolved cases, including the construction of health centers (Puskesmas) in Waropen with a total budget of tens of billions of rupiah. These include Waren Health Center valued at IDR 9 billion, Demba Health Center at IDR 7 billion, Ingerus Health Center at IDR 7 billion, and Botawa Health Center at IDR 7 billion. Additionally, the construction and maintenance of Bethania Church in Waren, amounting to IDR 8.5 billion, also garnered significant attention. Moreover, the fictitious procurement of medicines worth IDR 1.111 billion was spotlighted as another form of public fund misuse detrimental to society.

During the meeting, Dorus Wakum firmly reminded that corruption is the enemy of the nation and state, describing it as the root cause of poverty and the destroyer of the people's economy. He stressed that decisive actions must be taken to demonstrate the government and law enforcement’s commitment to eradicating corruption, aligning with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to prioritize anti-corruption efforts within the first 100 days of his administration.

Meanwhile, Petra Wonda explained that the Prosecutor's Office is awaiting the MK’s decision regarding a lawsuit filed by one of the suspects, Ruben Yason Rumboisano, the former Head of the Waropen Regional Financial and Asset Agency (BPKAD). Following the verdict, the Prosecutor's Office will determine the next execution steps. In a dialogue that was serious yet assertive, KAMPAK Papua urged the Prosecutor’s Office not to allow corruption suspects to evade legal accountability. Dorus Wakum emphasized that the Attorney General’s promise to resolve pending cases post-Pilkada must be fulfilled.

Concluding the meeting, Dorus Wakum reiterated the importance of fair and firm law enforcement against corruption perpetrators, particularly in the case of the Bethania Church construction, which has significantly harmed the public. He expressed hope that the Yapen Islands District Prosecutor’s Office would not merely offer promises but take concrete actions to deliver justice to the people and restore public trust in law enforcement institutions.
